04.16.08: Fun and Expression

Playing the guitar is a source of great enjoyment for the player and the listener. It is the ‘tool of choice’ for this musician and I have enjoyed every minute learning the ins and outs of this extraordinary instrument. Whether the music calls for a screaming guitar solo, fingerpicked accompaniment, soulful rhythm groove or just plain melody line, the guitar can be used to make it happen. There are so many styles of music that can be played on the instrument that one can spend a lifetime learning a variety of new music without ever getting bored. It’s fun to learn to play and express yourself whether playing and singing a song or performing an instrumental piece. For many students, playing the guitar helps provide a therapeutic release from the stresses and strains that accompany many of our typical workdays! This ability to help one relax and shift focus is what I often refer to as ’stringed therapy’.
